6Venice, Italien
Fantasy
venice is considered the city of love of Italy and at the same time it is one of the oldest and most fascinating cities in Europe. With narrow streets, small canals and romantic gondolas, lovers from all over the world will be enchanted by the Italian lagoon city.
In our imagination, we stay with our sweetheart in one of the stately homes in San Marco right on the Grand Canal. Get breakfast on the private balcony and enjoy a scenic view over the rooftops of the city. During the day we explore the winding canals with a typical Venetian gondola and in the evening we walk hand in hand through the almost lonely and romantically lit streets.
If you round off the evening with a culinary excursion to a typical Venetian trattoria or osteria with live music, you will inevitably return to your hotel room with the famous butterflies in your stomach. And then most of the couples won’t get to sleep soon …
Reality
Several times a year, the „Pearl of the Adriatic“ is not only surrounded by water. Then the waters of the lagoon suddenly become a curse: the historic squares become small lakes, the lanes impassable, basements and lower floors are full and life becomes tedious in Venice.
What you can not see on the glossy photos of the travel brochures is that Venice is overcrowded with tourists in summer. And when it rains, it gets a bit uncomfortable.
Unlike most cities, traffic in Venice takes place on the water. So do not expect to just gondolas through the canals. Often other water taxis, ambulances and gondolas disturb the cozy togetherness.
